Happiness - Part 2 (with Stephen Bannister)
My longtime friend Stephen Bannister returns to do a post mortem on Happiness (1998), a movie that deserves a litany of trigger warnings, including child molestation, suicide, mass shootings, and rape. Needless to say, we talk about all these things, as well as baseball. If you’re interested in reading the soul-crushing David Foster Wallace story we talk about in the episode, it’s called “Incarnations of Burned Children.” It’s under 1,200 words long, and you can find it in its distressing entirety here: https://www.esquire.com/entertainment/books/a500/incarnations-burned-children-david-foster-wallace-0900/ Please don’t say I didn’t warn you.
