#44 - Should You Start Meditating In The Morning?
Hey everyone, Kirk here again at optionalpha.com and welcome back to the daily call. On today’s call, we’re going to ask the question or basically propose the question – “Should you start meditating in the morning?” Now, this is a topic that I think I’ve been interested in talking about on the show here and it’s definitely not necessarily related to options trading or to investing, but I think it helps out in really, all areas. It’s something that I’ve actually done for a while now and I’m not 100% on doing this every morning. No doubt, I do get thrown in the morning by either my kids waking up early and so, I don’t have a chance to actually do it, but I do try every single morning to meditate for at least like 10 minutes and I think it’s actually been really helpful for me. I’ve been doing this now for a couple of months. I’ve started a little while ago and then fell off the bandwagon on that and then got back on here just a couple of months ago, but for me, I think it’s just a good time to just clear your head. Now, meditating doesn’t necessarily mean you have to do the full blown practice, full blown setup. I mean, I know that people do it and I’ve emailed back and forth with members that do it and they’re totally more in depth than what I would do on this. But for me, it’s just about taking an extra couple of minutes to just calm down to let my mind clear, to really focus on the priorities for the day and for me, it’s before my girls wake up, just focusing on what I need to get done, so I can spend time with them. That’s really what it comes down to. I think that having some sort of ritual in the morning or some sort of habit that you form in the morning (I think it’s important that it has to be in the morning) is really important to your success during the day. I think a lot of people get thrown and pulled in different directions by the day or by their work schedule or by their calendar where they’re just basically like running a mock basically with your schedule and you’re getting pulled in every direction instead of you being the one that’s directing your life and directing your day. For me, I think that this has actually been really helpful. I do sit down in the morning after I wake up. I grab some coffee. I just sit and chill and try to meditate a little bit, try to clear my mind. It’s insanely hard for me to do. My mind is always going and I feel like my mind does not sleep even when my body does. My mind has 15 new ideas every morning when I wake up, but for me, it’s a really good idea to clear my mind. I think you should think about it and start considering it or at least try to do it. It’s definitely hard to do. It’s not been easy for me to learn how to meditate. It’s a hard practice actually. It takes a lot of I guess mental strength to actually start clearing your mind. It’s not an easy thing to do and you should figure that out once you start, but I think it’s something that you could actually start entertaining and at least try a couple of minutes a day in your morning routine. This has been interesting for me. Hopefully you guys liked these different podcast episodes and different shows. This is one of the topics that I’ve been wanting to talk about that again, just never really fit any place else except for the daily call here. I would like to know though if you are listening to the show. Just shoot me an email or post on Facebook or Twitter. Just let me know what your routine is in the morning. I’m interested to see how different people meditate or what you use or what tools or apps that you use. Always learning and trying to figure out how we can improve things and improve our mental health which I think is really important. As always, hopefully you guys enjoyed this. Until next time, happy trading!
