Govt committed to prevent misuse of COVID-19 vaccines data on eVIN platform
The Union Government has advised states and Union Territories to obtain the permission of the Health Ministry before sharing the vaccine stock and eVIN data relating to the temperature at which they are stored. It said, "It was entirely for commercial purpose by various agencies to prevent any misuse of this data."Under universal immunization programme (UIP), eVIN is used by the Ministry to manage the list of vaccines and track the storage temperature data of vaccines.The ministry said in a release on Thursday that important information related to trends in the use of specific vaccines for several vaccines used in UIP, and temperature data in respect of each such vaccine can be used for market manipulation as well as related research. In respect of various vaccines and cold chain equipment.It is important to note that the Health Ministry is now using eVIN electronic platform for all vaccines used under UIP for more than six years. Stock and storage, sharing sensitive eVIN data on temperature requires prior consent of the Health Ministry,'' the release said.Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay has set up the Koita Centre for Digital Health.
