Finance Minister Arun Jaitley presented the last full budget of the Narendra Modi government ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha election. It was an occasion for the government to make a last ditch effort to please its constituents and fulfil the promises made by the BJP in it election manifesto for the 2014 general election. For the farmers, Jaitley said at the time of sowing, farmers should feel secure against natural calamities. "The Fasal Bima Yojana launched by our government is a major step in this direction. The coverage of this scheme will be increased from 30 per cent of cropped area in 2016-17 to 40 per cent in 2017-18 and 50 per cent in 2018-19.
