On September 26, 1963, a small plane took off from Delhi's old airport at Safdarjung, and flew straight to Karachi. The pilot was an American smuggler named Daniel Hailey Walcott Jr, who had been arrested and kept in Tihar Jail for smuggling 10,000 rounds of ammunition.
