The queen who jumped off the Qutub Minar in 1946

On December 9, 1946, a 33-year-old woman jumped off the top of Delhi's Qutub Minar. Police identified her as Rani Tara Devi of Kapurthala in Punjab. But her real name was Eugenie Marie Grosupova. She was a Czech national, the illegetimate daughter of a Hungarian count. She was also a talented dancer who had made her mark at Vienna's Burgtheater 11 years earlier. This is her story.
