Clive Branson: A British soldier who loved India
In 1942, the Quit India Movement was brewing, and relations between Indians and their white rulers had hit bottom. At this time of great disturbance, a British soldier named Clive Branson came to India. From the first his sympathies lay with the Indians. He wanted to be their friend. His letters to his wife, published as the book ‘British Soldier in India’ reveal a strong and sensitive personality. Unfortunately, Branson was killed in action in Burma, on Feb 25, 1944
