There are 8 parts of speech in U.K based grammar. They are noun, pronoun, adjective, verb, adverb, preposition, conjunction and interjection.  A noun is the name of a person, place, thing or an idea.A pronoun is the word used instead of a noun. An adjective is a word that qualifies a noun or pronoun. A verb says something about the subject. It can be an action, event or status of an event. An adverb is word that qualifies a verb, an adjective or another adverb. A preposition is a word that shows the relationship between a noun, pronoun or phrases with the remaining part of the sentence. A conjunction is a word used to join two or more words, phrases, clauses or sentences. An interjection is a word or phrase used to express feeling rather than meaning.
