A well-known activist in the Indian independence movement Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia was also a socialist political leader. Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia completed his Ph.D. thesis on the topic of Salt Taxation in India or Satyagrah at the age of 22 years from Germany.Lohia was among the founders of the Congress Socialist Party. Later, Dr. Lohia joined Congress Radio which was broadcast secretly from various places in Bombay until 1942 during the last phase of British rule in India. In the general election of the year 1962, Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia lost to Nehru but became a part of Lok Sabha in 1963 by winning a by-poll.
