Episode 33 of the conversations between Yogita Pant and Anil Chawla starts with a discussion about key defining features of aastik thought. Anil Chawla also explains the meanings of the words Hindu and Bharat. The conversation continues with discussing the attempt of Bharat to convince Ram to return to Ayodhya. Bharat has tried all the arguments that he could think of. As a last resort, he even threatens to sit on a dharna or sit-in-protest before the small hut where Ram was staying. Ram convinces him that such sit-in-protests are not appropriate for him. Exasperated, Bharat asks the people present to help him convince Ram. But the people see merit in Ram’s arguments and tell Bharat that they are unable to help him. At this point, the Rishis intervene. They tell Bharat to let Ram follow the path that he has chosen. Bharat is still not ready to give up. Ram uses the power of affection and love to get Bharat to agree. Bharat gets a pair of gold-studded footwear and asks Ram to wear it for a moment and return the pair to him. Bharat says that this pair of footwear will be put on the throne of Ayodhya and will be the king of Ayodhya. Bharat says that he will live in a nearby forest like a forest-dweller and oversee the kingdom but not as a king. Bharat seeks Ram’s permission for this arrangement. Ram has no option but to accept Bharat’s request. (Ref.
