Gary Clark Jr. on the Self Discovery Behind His New Multi-Genre Symphony, JPEG Raw

Gary Clark Jr. joins Kyle Meredith to talk about JPEG Raw, his first album in five years. The singer-guitarist tells us about the emotional rollercoaster of the past few years, from being burnt out after 2019’s This Land, to the energy he found after that year’s Grammys and the decision to make a party record, to the defeating nature of the pandemic, and the joy his second child brought. Clark reveals the dreams he has of being a conductor of a symphony, finding the love of music that originally sparked when he was 12 while listening to Steve Vai and Eric Johnson, honing in on his chops after being called out by Robert Glasper and Esperanza Spalding, and recording with Valerie June and Naala.
